FCA Surf Missions Update

On June 16, 2016 I head the pleasure of leading a team from FCA Surf on a missions trip to Nicaragua. This trip was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. Nicaragua is a mecca for waves, because of that the sport of surfing is growing rapidly among locals. At FCA Surf we use our passion for surfing to share the love of Jesus. That’s exactly what the plan was for our trip to Nicaragua.

We started getting acclimated to the country by meeting up with a few groups of “Christian Surfers” that were already established in a few of the local beach towns. It was awesome to meet, surf, and pray with them. Through translators we were able to explain why we came to Nicaragua and received encouragement from these groups.

Later on it was off to Pochomil, a small beach community, and where we would be living/working for the rest of our time in the country. It was here that we were to run an FCA Surf Camp (Nicaragua style). The camp was great. The first day we started off with 20 kids and by the last day we had over 40 attending. The days consisted of surf lessons for beginners and extra training for the more advanced kids. After a long surf session we huddled the kids up, and using a translator, gave a devotion out of the FCA handbook. The children were very receptive. Each child who attended camp received a Bible to take home.

One of our goals in having this camp was to start a surf a huddle in Pochomil that will meet regularly. We are constantly receiving updates on their group from the missionaries we worked with while there. Ultimately the trip was an amazing success, relationships were started and decisions for Christ were made. We are constantly praying for the group in Pochomil and are extremely thankful for the opportunity to go!

“FCA surf in Nicaragua has been giving surfers in Pochomil access
to equipment, a sense of community among other surfers, and, most
importantly, an identity as surfers living for and growing in
Christ. We are blessed to be a part of God’s plan to unite surfers
for Him in Nicaragua.”Cesar Medina, FCA Nicaragua
